San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman bought a four-bedroom, 4.5 bath at 12625 Sagecrest Dr. in Poway for $1.6 million from Stephen Wilkinson on April 7.

Wilkinson paid $903,000 for the home in May 2004.

The 3,954 square foot home was listed for $1.85 million. It was built in 2002.

Just three years into his NFL career, Merriman, 23, is one of the faces of the San Diego Chargers franchise and one of the top young defensive players in the league.

He's been named to the NFL Pro Bowl in each of his years in the league and he won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2005. He's recorded at least 10 sacks in each of his three seasons and led the league with 17 sacks in 2006 despite playing in just 12 games.

Merriman was drafted 12th overall by the Chargers in the 2005 NFL Draft after the New York Giants traded the pick to San Diego as part of the 2004 deal that got eventual Super Bowl XLII MVP quarterback Eli Manning to New York. Merriman, who is from Washington, D.C., played college football at the University of Maryland.

Chargers defensive lineman Jamal Williams sold his home in La Jolla for $2 million on March 13, while Chargers placekicker Nate Kaeding spent $1.475 million for a home in Del Mar on April 4, 2007.
