James McCarthy and his wife, Jane, bought a six-bedroom, seven bath in Poway at 17728 Old Winery Way for $2.55 million from Steven Altman and his wife, Lisa, on Feb. 26.
The Altmans bought the property for the house in 1997 for $330,000.
The 8,077 square foot home was listed for $3.075 million.
Mr. Altman is the president of telecommunications manufacturer Qualcomm Inc. He joined the company in 1989 and has played a key role in growing the revenues of QTL, Qualcomm's technology licensing arm. He's served in several executive roles for the company and has been a member of the executive committee since 1992.
Prior to joining Qualcomm, he specialized in intellectual property for a San Diego law firm. Altman earned a bachelor's in Criminal Justice from Northern Arizona University and received his J.D. from the University of San Diego.
Mr. McCarthy is the chairman of the UCLA Foundation, a non-profit corporation that receives and invests private gifts to the university. He is the former chief operating officer for Bumble Bee Seafoods.
He and Mrs. McCarthy run the McCarthy Family Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses efforts on education, child abuse prevention, homeless assistance and AIDS research.
